Infinite Miracles

Few months ago, I've started working as a laboratory volunteer for a PhD candidate but haven't been blogging about it because I didn't take any pictures of it. A picture worth a thousand words. That's why it makes my blogging easier. Hehe.

Last semester, all we needed to do was taking out the seeds from the wallaby grass and the kangaroo grass. This semester, we started off by seperating woody litter, pine litter and leaf litter. Then we weighed them. Yesterday, we went to the glass house to do some potting.
The PhD candidate named Brad. So the first glass house in the picture belongs to him and his mate. It was 21 degrees yesterday and I already felt hot. When I walked into the glasshouse, I sweat immediately. @@" Inside was so hot!

We transferred these little Kunzea into a small pot.

Brad taught me how to do the potting. First, fill the pot with soil and then make a hole using a pen. After that, carefully pick one plant out of the tray and put into the hole. Lastly, cover up the hole and press the soil down as hard as possible so that it is compact and the roots can absorb water more efficiently.

I did it slowly as I've never done any gardening before. >.<" I was worried that I will damage the roots or not pressing down the soil hard enough. By the time Brad finished potting 6 pots, I only done 3 pots. Swt. Press until my thumb also tired.

There sure will be more updates on this because he will be doing this project for 3 years. Although I'm not very interested in botany, but I get to know how people do their research projects. =p

Finally, the first floor of the library has opened! Now they are renovating the second floor entrance which also means I need to climb more steps to get to third floor. Swt.

Today's dinner: Salmon, butter mushroom and ham maccoroni. Forgotten to add salt. @@"

Yesterday was FOCUS social night. This time was a laser tag game. We went to Boxhill after dinner and there's this stall called 'Dark Zone'. I had no idea what was the game about at first, all I heard from other people was just about shooting people with laser in a dark place. The price was $20 for 3 games, but we've got discount from FOCUS, so it was $10 for 3 games. Hehe.

There were 40 of us and we were seperated into 3 groups of different colours. I was in red group and my laser gun name was Inferno. Lol. We just had to wear a vest with the gun attached to it and shoot at other people's vest. If a person get shot, then that person is unable to shoot for a few seconds. The gun will record how many targets you have shot and then you can see your own score at the end of the game.

Inside the place was not so dark until pitch black. There were lights on the ground. It's like a maze inside. We ran up and down, squat and stand, shoot here shoot there until I also had no clue where was I aiming. @@" We played 3 games. During the first game, I was too dumb. I ran around shooting people but I ended up got shot by people the most. Swt. After that, I just kept hiding at one place with some of my group players for more protection and not so exhausted. Hehe.

I got 35th for the second game and 21st for the third game and my accuracy was just 10%. Not bad for the first time. After 3 games, all of us were sweaty and tired! Haven't been running around like this for so many years and felt like I was playing a tag game similar to those we used to play in primary school.

Boxhill is an Asian area. So we went to one of the Malaysian restaurant for desserts. This restaurant has got 3 storeys and opens until 3am.
All 40 of us occupied the whole second floor. Lol. Some of them ordered supper but most of us ordered ice kacang because of we were extremely thirsty of the game.

It's a tiring night but I felt so good after an exercise. =) It didn't feel like exercising though, when playing with a whole bunch of people. Lol.

After the dog show, we walked around the showground and found some other animals. There were some farm animals like goats, cows, horses, ponies, ducks, chickens etc.

There were some thrilling rides too. Wonder what if someone throw up during the ride?There's a haunted house and there's a gargoyle outside the haunted house.

When kids are taking pitures with the gargoyle, the gargoyle will stand up and scare the kids until they scream and run away. However, so lucky that we saw one of the special scenario like this: a little boy stood beside the gargoyle and smiling to his parents who were taking picture of him. Then...

Gargoyle: (stood up) Rarr!!!

Boy: ???? (still with the smile on his face)

LOL!! That time was so super funny. The gargoyle so paiseh. I also laughed everytime I looked at this picture. xD

There were a lot of shops for games and to win some toys. Well, seemed like this stall was the easiest for people who play basketball. Min Dee wanted a Simpsons doll, so she asked Teck to play the basketball, and he already got it on his second try.And here's Min Dee and her Bart Simpson. xD
There's a tent which displayed everything about food. Coffee, jam, milk, honey, bakeries, cooking demonstrations, fitting plastic wrap, cutleries and anything that's related to food. There was also a row of stalls selling different types of food from different countries.

So here is a spanish donut. Funny donut shape. Lol.

It was a nice cooling day. Didn't sweat a bit after all the walking. Hehe.

Went to the Royal Melbourne Showground with Min Dee and Teck. Checked out their website a bit and I saw they have got dog shows! Wheee!! In fact, when we arrived there, our first destination was to the dog shows. Hehe..The shows were based on dog breeds. So different breeds on different day. At that time, the scottish terriers were showing.We went to the dogs' resting place and I started to get excited. Look! My eyes were shining! Lol.First up was this weimaraner. It got second place. It kept looking down at first, then the owner ask the dog to look up so that I can snap a picture of it. Hehe.Guess what I saw next! Lots of majestic great danes!! Oh no!!=DD Harlequin great danes somemore! I can become crazy inside along with Min Dee. Haha.

No luck for dad because there weren't any boston terriers showing on this day. Lol. I've realised that I was starting to forget some of the dog breed names. How can it be!? I used to be so pro last time and was able to recgonise the breeds immediately by just one glance! Oh no... =(

So this is the first half of our day trip. Hope this post can brighten your day even if you are not an animal lover. ;)

There's a Hari Raya celebration organised by the Malaysian Assiociation. At first I was quite lazy to go as I always like to spend my sweet time in the room. Since my housemate and some of her friends were going, so I just tagged along.

It's held at the North Melbourne Townhall.

I borrowed a baju kurung from my housemate, Alyaa. It's been a while since the last time I wore my baju kurung school uniform. It's so weird to wear baju kurung, not because I haven't been wearing it, but wearing a don't-know-what-kind-of-dress-is-that here in Australia and walking around the streets really attention-attracting. @@"

They didn't really have any nice raya decorations inside. It's just black curtains.

The food was quite up to Malaysian standard. They have got hotdog with satay sauce, nasi briyani, beef rendang, curry chicken, salad, kuih, pie etc. The taste of the food made me feel a lot like home. =D Then, there's a guy on the stage singing some Malay songs.

My housemate, Alyaa. She's a mixed blood (Jawanese, Thai, Arab and some I can't remember). She's actually Singaporean but she pretends to be Malaysian when she attends any of these events. Lol. Can tell that she's very intelligent by the way she speaks. Her english is so good!!

After that, we walked to Aidah's house in Southbank. We walked along the Yarra River. At least need to explore the city a bit further. Until now, I still only know how to wander around the 4-8 main streets that dad taught me. Hehe.

On the way, we saw this. It's some information on the origins of the people who come here: KL, Johor, Ipoh, Penang, Sarawak, Sabah and Malacca. From 1880-1890, people came here as pearl divers or seamen. From 1960-1980, they came as students and from 1980 onwards, they were students + business & professional migrants. They've got this for all other countries as well and these glasses lined up along the path.
