Bro came back from Singapore for new year. On the first night of 2011, we went for a fine dining at Frangi Pani because bro 'fatt dat' already. Lol.
Didn't know what's the reason for his awkward smile when sis was taking pictures of him. Maybe he serious until forgot how to take pictures already. @@"
Complementary bread. It's crispy on the sides and soft in the middle. Nice. Can eat as many as you want.
Amuse Bouche. I've forgotten what was this but it's nice.
Crab and prawn bisque with crab quenelles, prawn poachedin beurre noissette. The name sounds so prestigious until it's impossible to remember it, and you might wonder how I'm able to type it out it's just because I adapted it from my sis's blog. Hehe. My dad ordered it and he said it's nice.
Don't know what's this called. I think it's fish eggs. It's nice to be eaten with the cream.
I've ordered this: pan roasted porcini powder dusted Hokkaido scallop with half cooked potato sliced, seared porcini mushrooms and white gazpacho vinaigrette. I was expecting the dishes in fine dining to be pea sized small which I can finish it with one bite, but to my surprise, the scallop was super big. First time eating such big scallop. Awesome!
Grilled basil garlic infused snails with sweet pea puree, dried tomato glaze and garlic peanut crumble. I like to eat escargots, so this was also nice to me.
This was my second course: deep fried spice dusted soft shell crab with white bouillabausse sauce. Eat the crunchy soft shell crab together with a chunk of crab meat is superb. After this dish, I was already abit full.
Roast pigeon breast with raviolo of confit quail leg in sage beurre noissette and a trail of maraschino cherry sauce. Didn't try out this one as I don't eat pigeon.
Warmed tea smoked salmon with confit potato crème fraîche and salmon roe. Such a big piece of salmon. I really was expecting two small cubes. Lol.
Halfway through our dining, they served sorbet. This was to prevent us from getting too full before the main course.
Finally, the main course arrived. Dad ordered pan roasted, duck prosciutto wrapped grain fed tenderloin topped with pan seared foie gras and served with wilted spinach and truffle glazee.
Me and bro ordered pan roasted duck confit with mustard cream and mashed potato on a crisp potato couronne. It was okay, just that I was too full to finish it (gave a big chunk to my dad). Didn't like the round thingy on the side though. Loved the mashed potato beneath.
At last, the star dish of the night: grilled Wagyu beef cheek with braised red cabbage, mole sauce and pumpkin dauphines. Mom and sis ordered this. People, read the name carefully. It's beef cheek. It was sooooo tender that we felt like eating jelly. My mom's and sis's expression while eating it had made me laughed non stop for the whole night. xD
So that's my French fine dining experience. According to my fine dining definition, my stomach should feel nothing after eating all the dishes because of the super tiny portions. However, this fine dining made me bloated. Swt. Anyway, it's a unique way to start the year. Lol.
