Healsville Sanctuary

The zoo guides have organised a trip to Healsville Sanctuary. The past few days were very warm but today is freezing! And it's a rainy day too. @@" I was told by dad that I came here before few years ago when I first visited Melbourne for holidays with family. However, I can't recall any memory of being here. Lol.

What we did was quite the same as what we did on our first day of the zoo guide training course. We listened to their talks on this property, morning tea and a tour around the sanctuary by the guides there.

A sanctuary is so different from a zoo. The animals exhibits are spreaded out and sometimes feel more like bush walking. Over here, there are only native Australian animals and they are also more active. I finally can see platypuses and wombat on the move! So cuteee! Whereas in the zoo, I can only see the wombats sleeping in the burrow and hardly ever see the platypus coming out.

This is the Australian Wildlife Health Centre. The moment I stepped in, I fell in love with this place immediately. Inside was so nice and grand. Although it is not a very big building, but this centre includes vet checks and surgery, post mortem, care of rescued wildlife, etc. There's even a tv showing how they carry out a surgery. At that time, the video I saw was a vet applying stitches on an animal. So yeng! :D

Then, we went to to see the bird show. That keeper was actually having an owl on his hand.

This is the brown falcon. Just showing that they also prey on snakes in the wild.

One of my favourite birds of prey, the wedged tail eagle. So big.

The spot where I was standing was a lucky spot. The eagle flew twice to this spot and it was just beside me. Haha. I can feel the wind when it flapped its wings and flew away. So yeng! How I wish I can get a chance to have one landing on my hand. xD

The popular Australian icon. So active grabbing the leaves and eat. Super cute!

There should be a toilet roll here but obviously it's lost. "Someone is desperate, stolen the loo paper." quoted by one of my senior. Lol.

Dingo! So cute! Feel like bringing it back home and play with my doggies. Haha.

Haha. These two so funny. Sleeping with one leg.

These are their true faces. By the way, they are brolgas or Australian cranes. They are quite big in size.

Overall, it was a nice trip. It would have been better if it wasn't raining and freezing. Next trip will be to Werribee Open Range Zoo! Please be a nice sunny day.
